After much discussion among the Bird-in-Hand Fire Company Board members and the Auction Committee, we’ve decided to cancel this year’s sale. There were varied ideas and thoughts, but one point we all agreed upon is this: The Fire Company’s main mission is to help protect public safety and well-being, so it is our responsibility to adhere to the PA governor’s current orders. We realize a lot could change in the coming weeks, but there’s too much involved to wait until the last minute to make a decision. You may wonder “why not postpone until a later date?” We could state a number of reasons, but several main ones are: loss of momentum and interference of long- term plans that our many volunteers may already have made for later in the year, and the possibility of interfering with other events that follow the auction on the same property. We will miss working together as a community and seeing old friends come together, but we look forward to experiencing it again in 2021. As you clean out your attics and barns over the next year, please consider putting some items aside to consign or donate to next year’s sale. Thanks for your support!
